How Do I Store a Gazebo in Winter?

When the days grow shorter and the temperature drops, many people wonder what to do with their gazebo. Do you leave it out? Pack it away? Or give it a little winter TLC? Storing your gazebo correctly not only keeps it looking good but also prolongs its lifespan- saving you money and hassle when spring arrives.

Why Storing Your Gazebo Properly Matters

A gazebo is an investment. Whether you use it for garden parties, trade shows or outdoor events, proper storage over winter helps:

  • Prevent mould, rust and fabric damage
  • Keep your frame strong and joints smooth
  • Make setup faster and easier when warm weather returns

Step 1: Clean Before You Store

Give your gazebo a thorough clean before packing it away:

  • Brush off leaves, mud and debris
  • Wipe down the canopy with mild soap and warm water
  • Let everything dry completely to prevent mould

Surf & Turf’s Canopro Elite and Canopro Lite canopies are made with waterproof, fire-retardant fabric- but even these benefit from a proper clean and dry before storage.

Step 2: Disassemble With Care

Take your time folding down the frame and canopy:

  • Remove sidewalls first
  • Collapse the frame slowly to avoid bending joints
  • Use the original carry bag or a sturdy storage bag

For example, the Canopro Lite 3m x 3m comes with an easy-carry bag perfect for storage between events or seasons.

Step 3: Store in a Dry, Cool Space

Avoid damp garages or sheds if possible. Opt for a dry, cool space away from direct sunlight and fluctuating temperatures. If space is tight, consider removing the canopy from the frame to reduce bulk.

The Robusta Pop-Up Gazebo’s steel frame separates easily from its canopy, making it ideal for compact storage.

Step 4: Use Protective Covers

Investing in a dedicated gazebo storage bag or cover can protect your frame and fabric from dust and scratches. Surf & Turf supply a range of heavy-duty storage bags that fit their models perfectly, giving extra protection over the winter months.

Bonus: If You’re Leaving It Up

Sometimes you may want to leave your gazebo up year-round. If that’s the case:

  • Choose a high-spec model like the Canopro Elite with reinforced aluminium frame
  • Add weighted feet or ground anchors to handle strong winds
  • Use side walls for extra protection against rain and frost

Keep Your Gazebo Looking New Year After Year
